The Voice of My Faith

Known By Name

With ever more precise GPS systems, it seems easier than ever to find our way. TED Talks and pod casts preach practical insights for good living. (I find them inspiring, too!) Life, however, has a way of surprising us. When a partner dies, we lose our job, or we find ourselves struggling with addiction or loneliness, those clear directions can suddenly disappear. We wonder where to turn and realize how much we need a guide who understands our heart intimately. Wandering is human. The challenge is that we can be lost and not even realize it. Like sheep looking for greener pastures, we follow what the world says will satisfy us. Sometimes wandering happens quietly, as we begin living apart from God and choosing our own path instead of letting Him lead. We try to control our lives, but ensuring the desired outcome is often elusive, especially in life’s darker moments.

Shifting: From Rules to Relationship

Often then, something begins to shift. When I’ve turned to Jesus with a simple, honest prayer, I haven’t encountered an idea, but an understanding, loving and real Person. Gradually, faith has become less about formulas and rules and more about relationship. I’m learning that the more I let Jesus lead, the more I discover His goodness and care, and how intimately He knows my heart. I realize I can trust Him.

The Good Shepherd

On the Fourth Sunday of Easter, we celebrate Jesus as the Good Shepherd who calls us by name (John 10:3) and never tires of searching for us when we’re lost (Luke 15:4). Psalm 23 assures us that He guides each of us to our heart’s fulfillment and rest. He accompanies us through life’s inevita ble dark valleys as a good, loving guide. So metimes, just noticing the Good Shepherd is with us can make the valley feel lighter. Where in your life might you let Him lead you today?
