The Voice of My Faith

Creation: God's Love Story

The summer holidays are almost over. For sure, you have received pictures from friends or family of beautiful sunrises, sunsets, mountain ranges and beach landscapes. Pictures like these make us pause and wonder. They remind us of how small we are in this big world and at the same time, they remind us of how great a gift it is to be part of such a wonderful creation. We feel small and fragile when we think of the powerful elements of nature: fire, earth, air, and water. But we also feel great when our wonder carries us beyond ourselves and opens up our hearts to the invisible Creator.

The Beauty of Wonder

Wonder can be a bridge to faith. When we look at the beauty of the world, creation and everything it encompasses and when we feel the love and mercy of God, we step into a sacred space of trust.

Psalm 19 (Ps 19: 2-5a) says it beautifully: “The heavens declare the glory of God; the firmament proclaims the works of his hands. Day unto day pours forth speech; night unto night whispers knowledge. There is no speech, no words; their voice is not heard; A report goes forth through all the earth, their messages, to the ends of the world.”

God's Language of Love

Creation is like a visible language of God. It tells us: God is writing a love story with us, not a lifeless contract, but a living relationship full of hope, respect, diversity, and abundance. Faith and hope in God are things we learn from experience. They can open the way for us to believe in the God of revelation.

St. Paul wrote of this with unshakable certainty in his Letter to the Hebrews, a truth that is echoed by countless voices through the centuries.

“Faith is the realization of what is hoped for and evidence of things not seen.”

So, we can ask: What is the foundation of our hope? Do we not all hope for peace and justice, and to care for creation? Do we not also wish for health and happiness for our children, families and friends and for ourselvs? Yes, we share many hopes. But every shared hope starts with personal hope. And every shared faith is rooted by a personal faith.

Paul Gives Us Examples

Further on in the Reading, he tells how, By faith, Abraham obeyed when God called him to go to a new land. And how, by faith, Sarah, though she could not have children, received the power to become a mother because she trusted the One who had promised. It was the personal faith and trust of Sarah and Abraham that gave them a shared future with God.

To live faith means to live relationship. To know you are wanted by God. To know you are loved. To know you are sent into the world with a purpose.

That is why Jesus says in Luke’s Gospel: “Gird your loins and light your lamps!”

He tells us to be ready to go when God calls. Sometimes that call comes in the middle of the night, just like the story of the Exodus, or like the empty tomb on Easter morning. Yes, with the Evangelist Luke we can affirm: Blessed are those who keep watch and seek the footsteps of God, the human traces present in Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.

Then the Lord himself will become a servant and let us share in the fullness of life. For Christ Jesus is not like the mighty rulers of this world, who take by force, rob, and kill. Therefore, my dear friends, Let us marvel, personally and together, at the wonder of nature, at the gift of life, at the birth of a new human being. I rejoice greatly with the parents and families over the recent birth of Elisa Angela Grazia and Terezija.

Dear Friends

Let us marvel at the faithfulness of God. Let us praise him in Jesus Christ, in the power of the Holy Spirit, for his never-ending care for us.

Praised be Jesus Christ, Emmanuel. Amen.
