The Door Is Open
“He humbled himself and became obedient unto death—even death on a cross.” — Philippians 2:8
A door stands open. Just enough to let in the light. Just enough to invite someone to pause, to wonder… and maybe step inside.
Jesus comes to us this way—quietly, gently. He doesn’t force his way in. He waits. Not with pressure, but with invitation. Not with noise, but with presence. He stands before the door of our hearts, not to break it down, but to be welcomed.
The old wooden door in this image, photographed at the Graça Convent in Lisbon, is worn by time and history. It opens into unexpected beauty and peace. It reminds us: even the most ordinary entrance can become sacred if we let Christ pass through.
Kindness That Endures
In our noisy, fast-paced world, kindness can seem small or overlooked. But Jesus shows us that true kindness is strong. He meets betrayal without bitterness. He responds to wounds with mercy. He carries the weight of suffering and still thinks of others. This is love that endures. Kindness that doesn’t give up.
What does that look like for us today?
Choosing a gentle word when it’s easier to snap.
Offering help when it’s inconvenient.
Forgiving, even when it still hurts
Kindness doesn’t need applause. It doesn’t shout or demand. It simply stays, quiet, faithful, and strong.
A Summer Reflection
As summer unfolds, let us open the door to that kind of love. Let’s slow down, notice more, and welcome Jesus. It should not be in grand gestures, but in the small, daily rhythm of kindness.
Even the smallest act can let His light shine through.
Pray
Lord Jesus,
You do not force your way in.
You wait at the door, quiet, patient, kind.
Teach us to do the same.
When the world is loud, help us to be gentle.
When others are harsh, help us to respond with grace.
Let this summer be a season of quiet strength and open-hearted kindness.
Amen.
