Celebrating Christmas in 2025
Please join us for Christmas Day Mass in English, Thursday, December 25th at 11:30 a.m.
Every year we celebrate Christmas in the late Gothic church of St. Oswald in the Old Town of Zug. It is a joyful time of year and this special setting has a magical feel to it. Parking is available in the Casino park garage. St. Oswald is easily reached by public transportation, the bus stop is Kolinplatz.
God showed us His face at Christmas. Almighty and divine, and yet choosing to take on human flesh, in Jesus, God became one of us. We all enter this world as a tiny, fragile child and God was no different. Jesus was born into humble circumstances; He cried, He ate, He needed to be held and cared for, fully dependent on his parents, Mary and Joseph for everything. The Lord of the universe drew close enough to be cradled in human arms.
Jesus comes to breathe hope into our despair.
And yet, this Child is no ordinary baby. The Gospel of John tells us that Jesus is the true Light that shines in the darkness, indeed a light no darkness can overcome. He comes not to condemn, but to save. He comes to breathe hope into our despair and mend what is broken. He comes to reveal the Father’s tenderness and mercy. Those who welcome Him into their hearts, who allow His healing light to enter the hidden places of their lives, will be transformed and made new.
Do not be afraid.
Christmas reminds us that God is not distant. He steps into our poverty, our confusion, our fears and whispers, “Do not be afraid. I am with you.”
What parts of your heart most long to hear Jesus say, “Do not be afraid,” this Christmas?
