Words Have Power: Friday after Ash Wednesday

“From the fullness of the heart, the mouth speaks.”Luke 6:45

Jesus’ words in Luke 6:45 remind us of the deep connection between our inner life and our outward expressions. It mights be words from your mouth or the look on your face.

In biblical thought, the heart is more than just the seat of emotions; it represents the core of a person, their will, desires, and relationship with God. A heart rooted in Jesus naturally overflows with his love, but a heart filled with anger, selfishness, or indifference cannot help but reveal these things in words and actions.

The Heart is Our Center

In the same way that a tree is known by its fruit, the state of our soul is made visible in how we speak and treat others. If our hearts are transformed by grace, our words and acts will reflect Jesus.

Just as offering a cup of cold water is an expression of God’s kindness, so are words of encouragement, truth, and love.

Today, let us examine our hearts: Are they filled with Jesus' love? Do our words reflect the Gospel we believe? Before we speak, let us ask: Will my words nourish or hurt?

Will it reflect the kindness of Christ?
