Small Acts, Great Love: Thursday after Ash Wednesday

"Whoever gives even a cup of cold water… will certainly not lose their reward.” - Matthew 10:42

In the gospel of Matthew chapter 10, Jesus is speaking to his disciples as he sends them out on their mission. He assures them that even the smallest act of kindness, such as offering a cup of cold water, has value in God’s eyes. In the world’s eyes, grand gestures often receive the most recognition, but in the kingdom of God, it is the quiet, hidden kindnesses that matter most.

Finding Kindness

Kindness can be found in small gestures: a smile, a word of encouragement, a moment of patience. These acts might not seem like much, but they reflect the heart of Jesus.

Today, choose one simple act of kindness for someone who is often unnoticed. Maybe it’s the person who cleans your office, the quiet neighbor, or the cashier at the check out in the grocery store. Offer them a moment of warmth, and trust that God sees what others may overlook.
